Nigeria and South Africa have remained unmoved in the May edition of the FIFA World Rankings, although Ghana are one of several nations to have climbed after a relatively quiet month of international football.
There are no movers inside the world’s top 47 places, and therefore Africa’s top six remain as they were in April.
This means that Nigeria, with less than a month to go until the World Cup, are 47th overall and sixth in the continent.
Africa’s top five are Tunisia (14th overall), Senegal (28), Democratic Republic of Congo (38), Morocco (42) and Egypt (46), meaning the Super Eagles are the lowest-ranked of all the continent’s World Cup-bound sides.
Ghana are one of two notable African climbers, as they - like Cameroon - climb one spot, and will end the month tied in 50th place overall.
Burkina Faso are the most notable fallers, tumbling one spot to 54, with Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea also dropping places.
South Africa are unmoved, and will end the month 72nd in the world and 15th in Africa, while Benin are the continent’s biggest climbers.
The Squirrels move up six spots to 84th overall, and will have their sights on matching their highest ever FIFA ranking - the 71st place they achieved in 2010.
They are one of only four nations who climbed more than five places over the last month, with Kuwait - who leaped 16 places up to 160th - the world’s biggest movers.
