Katsina
state government has flagged off re-demarcation and beaconing of stock
routes across the state in order to prevent clash between farmers and
herders.
Speaking
at the commencement of the exercise yesterday in Jibia, Governor Aminu
Masari, represented by the Secretary to Government of state, Dr.
Mustapha Inuwa said the routes to be re-demarcated include both local
and international ones, which passes through the state to other
neighboring countries.
According
to him, government had concern over the incessant clash between farmers
and herders noting that the exercise was one of the measures taken to
address the challenge for harmonious coexistence between the two groups.
In
his remarks, the Chairman, state Standing Committee on improvement of
relationship between farmers and herdsmen, Alhaji Abdulaziz Lawal Kofar
Sauri said the exercise was aimed at fostering smooth passage of
pastoralists and prevention of farmers/herdsmen clash which had became a
thing of the past in the state.
On his part, the Cigarin Katsina, Aminu Mamman warned people to safeguard the initiative for the betterment of the society.

Chronicle gathered that 7,240 beacons across 905km of stock routes
were already earmarked by the committee in the first phase of the
exercise which is expected to be completed in six weeks.
