Chairman shot dead as Lagos PDP crisis worsens

Chairman shot dead as Lagos PDP crisis worsens
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has deteriorated over alleged substitution of local government chairmen by the state chairman, Hon. Moshood Salvador.

The crisis, which deteriorated after the inauguration of the executive turned violent on Saturday, during a tour of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, claiming the life of Hon. Borishade Adeniyi, the party’s chairman in Apapa Local Government Area of the state.

The organizing secretary of the party, Hon. Kunle Okunola, who spoke with our correspondent, blamed the crisis on alleged imposition of party chairmen in local government areas.
He accused the state chairman of the party of altering the list approved by the national secretariat and replacing names with his loyalists.

“It is never true. Go to the secretariat, everything that came from Abuja is on the board,” he said.
“I think the organizing secretary is working to mess the image of the party,” he said, adding that in the course of his tour of local governments, he had consistently preached peace and nonviolence.

The chairman noted that he was astonished that a meeting which started peacefully at Igbosuku village in Eti-Osa Local Government was disrupted by the LG PDP chairman, saying it was a planned work.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the death of Hon. Adeniyi who was allegedly shot and injured on the leg but eventually gave up at the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Chike Oti, said five principal suspects were  arrested including Engr. Kehinde Fasasi, chapter chairman, Eti-Osa LG; Hon. Rotimi Kujore, PDP chairman, Lagos Island LG; Alhaji Fatai Adele, PDP chapter chairman, Mushin LG; Mr. Ismail Abiola, PDP chapter chairman, Amuwo Odofin LG and Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, PDP chairman, Surulere LG.

The five suspects had been transferred to the SCIID, Panti for further investigation.

The statement quoted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, directing the PDP leadership to call its members to order, saying the force would not fold their arms and allow the party disrupt the peace.

He also called on all political parties in the state to disarm their members, saying nobody without authorisation was permitted to bear firearms.
